EMBASSY OF SRI LANKA, RIYADH - LABOUR WELFARE
The Sri Lankan worker population in Saudi Arabia is around 500,000 ( half a million). The Labour division of the Embassy takes measures for the welfare of those workers.
ACTIVITIES OF THE LABOUR SECTION
The Labour Section looks into the welfare of Sri Lankans by,
*Attending the complaints made by them in person, by fax, letters or over the telephone.
* Attending the complaints received from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Next of Kin, Local and Foreign Agents and other interested parties
* Settling problems faced by the inmates who are temporarily sheltered in the Embassy Safe House and repatriating them to Sri Lanka
* Visiting Saudi Government run Welfare Camp in order to assist solving problems of female workers and issue temporary travel documents where necessary
* Visiting Sri Lankan inmates at male and female Deportation camps in Saudi Arabia and issuing their temporary travel documents
* Visiting jails and attending needs of the Sri Lankan inmates and providing documentary assistance if any.
* Visiting sick Sri Lankans who are admitted to government hospitalsin Saudi Arabia, medical clinics etc.
*Contacting sponsors and settling labour disputes.
*Conducting monthly labour / consular mobile services considering difficulties of the migrant workers who are living in distant areas under the concept of "Mahinda Chinthana".
AUTHENTICATION OF LABOUR CONTRACTS, JOB-ORDERS AND AGREEMENTS
Labour Section of the Mission performs those functions in order to facilitate the recruitment employees by the Employment Agents in K.S.A. and Sri Lanka. The documents should be correctly forwarded to the Labour Section for this purpose. (The documentation is necessary and other details are given in the website). RECEIPT OF COMPLAINTS FROM THE SRI LANKANS ENGAGED IN THE INDUSTRIAL AND HOUSEHOLD SECTORS IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA
The Embassy entertains these complaints with a view to bring in solutions between the employer and the employee.
RENEWALS OF SLBFE REGISTRATION
Bureau Registration of the migrant employees is meant to benefit them and their families by Insurance cover. Their welfare in overseas locations is provided for a period of two years from the date of departure.
When the registration expires, the employees are able to renew same through this Mission.
